Have you heard of cycle syncing?

My first thought was when a bunch of ladies hang out so much that their cycles sync up. Just like magic! 🌙💫

What is cycle syncing?

Have you ever wondered why some days you feel like conquering the world, while others you just want to curl up in bed with a tub of ice cream? Well, it turns out that your menstrual cycle might have something to do with it.

Cycle syncing is actually a method that aligns your nutrition, exercise, and overall lifestyle to the natural rhythm of your menstrual cycle. It is said that this method helps to reduce symptoms and improves overall well being.

Alisa Vitti coined the phrase in her book Woman Code published in 2014. Vitti is a functional nutritionist and founded FloLiving Hormone Center. She claims that by changing eating habits, exercise and social engagements over the course of the month will help with the ever fluctuating hormones a female experiences.

Matching your life with your cycle can help you avoid burnout and keeps your mindful of your body's unique needs.

The Benefits

Cycle syncing may be beneficial for anyone who wants to improve their sex life, athletic performance, mood, or overall wellness during the various parts of their menstrual cycle.

Benefits can include:

  • Improve hormonal balance
  • Reduce PMS symptoms such as bloating, mood swings, and cravings
  • Make your workout routine more effective
  • Reduce the risk of injury during a workout
  • Reduce period symptoms such as period pain and mood swing
  • Feel more energized and balanced
  • Provide fertility support and when best to conceive
  • Better quality of sleep

How Does It Work?

Over the course of 4 weeks a woman's hormones increase and decrease. Our cycle is broken down into 4 eras.

  • menstrual (period)  Day 1-5
  • follicular (pre-egg release)  Day 6-14
  • ovulatory (process of release of the egg)  Day 15-17
  • luteal (post-egg release)  Day 18-28

The time span for each phase is average. Each person is different.

As hormones fluctuate throughout the month so does our energy and mood. This can affect the way our body approaches fitness, food cravings, and social engagement. By understanding these hormonal shifts, you can optimize your productivity, enhance your well-being, and say goodbye to those pesky PMS symptoms.

    Phase 1: Menstruation

Ah, the dreaded period. But fear not, my friend! This is the time to embrace self-care and relaxation. Treat yourself to a cozy day at home, indulge in some dark chocolate (it's good for your soul), and practice gentle exercises like yoga or Pilates. Your body is working hard, so give it the love and attention it deserves.

Have you tried using period underwear yet? I was squimish about the idea at first but I have found that I love them! They are comfortable, not bulky and nearly eliminate the purchase of pads and tampons.

    Phase 2: Follicular

As your energy levels start to rise, it's time to get things done! This phase is all about new beginnings and fresh ideas. Channel your inner Marie Kondo and declutter your space. Set goals, make plans, and take action. Your brain is firing on all cylinders, so seize the day!

    Phase 3: Ovulation

It's party time! Your hormones are peaking, and you're radiating confidence and charisma. This is the perfect moment to socialize, network, and tackle challenging tasks. Whether it's acing a presentation at work or hosting a fun social engagement, you can conquer it all!

    Phase 4: Luteal

As your cycle comes to an end, you might start feeling a bit more introspective. This is the time to focus on self-reflection and self-care. Slow down, listen to your body, and engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Treat yourself to a soothing bath, indulge in a good book, or try your hand at some creative endeavors. You deserve it!

    Final Thoughts

Cycle syncing is a powerful tool that allows you to harness the magic of your menstrual cycle. By aligning your activities with your hormonal fluctuations, you can optimize your well-being and live your best life. So, grab your moon calendar, embrace your inner goddess, and start syncing!

    • Thank you! The thought of working with the monthly cycle is exciting. I suggest starting to sync the week you start your period. Do note that it could take a couple of months to see the results.
